demo
Here's a good send-off to 2005, and a great welcome to 2006. Enjoy these guys, I put a lot of work into them...

6 points first:

1) They're demos
2) No vocals yet - I just didn't have time, and I wanted to get a couple done before years end
3) My guitars are broken - the bass neck needs aligning, the electric guitar won't tune because of the stupid floating tremolo, and the acoustic has a broken jack. So if something is out of tune or whatever, it's not my fault - it's the guitars!
4) They're demos
5) They're demos
6) They're FUCKING demos - this means not produced quality, and they're subject to change.

Here are the links...

Demo #2

Enjoy! Have a happy, and safe, new year...

As we close 2005, I feel the need to list about 10-20 songs this year that have really made my life that much more interesting and enjoyable... Keep in mind, I am making this list as I type, so... there could be additions, subtractions... who knows? I don't even know how many there are going to be now - I'm just going through the iPod and going from there.

ALSO, a few of these might not have even been released this year, but most of them have. If they weren't released this year, chances are they were released in late 2004 (like, the last 3 or 4 months of it). So, with that, if you have any means of downloading or listening to these songs, please do so... you'll be glad you did.

OH, and they aren't in any specific order, so... it's not a ratings list, just an overall:

(Band - Song, Song #2, Song #3, etc.)

1) City on Film - Anti-climactic, Pony's Last Trick, Forgiveness, Blue Vegas
2) Death Cab For Cutie - Marching Bands of Manhattan, Brothers On a Hotel Bed, Brand New Love (Live)
3) Walking Concert - Hands Up!
4) Oh My God - The Sneak, This is...The Worst...Oater...Ever!
5) Broken Social Scene - 7/4 Shoreline
6) Coldplay - Low
7) Foo Fighters - Free Me, No Way Back, Razor
8) Kevin Devine - No Time Flat, The Shift Change Splits the Streets
9) Nada Surf - Do It Again
10) Bloc Party - Always New Depths
11) Green Day - Jesus of Suburbia
12) Hey Mercedes - Unorchestrated (Live)
13) Jimmy Eat World - Over

So there you have it people. 22 songs that made my year that much more enjoyable. There were plenty of others, but those are the ones that really stand out. Find a way to listen to them, and then listen to them.

Why do I put this up when there are only like 3 people that look at this blog, most of whom already know these songs and have them? Because I'm so bored at work right now, I can't even think... It's insane.

Anyway, have a good day folks, and a good new year if I don't post before the switch to 2006!

OH YEA - no promises, but the audio for grey as sun song #1 is finished. Once vocals are put down, the song will be posted. So... again, no promises, but I'm feeling good about it this time...

So here we are...

It's after xmas, and what a time it is... I can go back to not having to worry about presents and crap. I have off school until the 23rd of January. All in all, this is a good time for me.

I just put together a drum sequence for a song I hope to start recording tonight. Depends on my schedule... I don't think I have much going on, but we will see. The drum sequencing is a pain in the ass. Basic beats are easy, but some of the more intricate fills are tough. So when I do post this song, the actual recorded/finished version of it will be a little different. And that's okay. For now, I'm just trying to get things going with this. I'm not rushing anything, I'm taking my time, I'm not giving myself any unreal expectations... 2 songs is my goal by the time school starts again. Shouldn't be too hard. But we'll see...

As for life in general, I'm in kind of a lull. This happens after school lets out. I get so busy and inundated with school projects and studying, that the sudden and abrupt stop to that leaves me a little disoriented. Not a big deal by any means, but I'm in a small funk these days. I'm sure the Arrested Development Season 2 DVD I got will help with that, ;-). I also got many gift cards to go shopping with, and hopefully that will ALSO add to my getting out of a funk.

In other news, I got my school schedule all worked out. I think I have enough classes and credits to be able to graduate in Spring of 2007. It's going to be a lot of work, but better to finish at age 27 than age 30. I met with the guy, who collects REALLY cool typeface drawers, and went through my work, got out of some classes and came up with a game plan for the rest of my college career. Fun times (not ever), but it's coming along, and I feel a little better seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

OH, and I got straight A's for the second semester in a row... OH YEA!

I also finished a couple of other things. Namely, my sisters wedding photos and wedding DVD. I picked it up at the Apple Store in Schaumburg from my good friend David. While I was there, I saw someone from a band that I really like that recently reunited, but I won't say who it is... I'm not a hollywood tabloid here, people! I also saw a child no older than 2 1/2 playing with a round seat thing like a ball for about 20 minutes, until David came out from the back and made a REALLY funny agitated face like "What? Why are you doing this and why are your parents letting you?"

I'm back to working out and back to making music people - stay informed, and I'll see you on the flipside...

xmas
Hey, wanna know something about xmas? FUCK XMAS!

Here's the problem... I've been put in charge of the grab bag this year for our family. Half the people want a random gift thing where you can steal and do the stupid game, and the other half (which usually gets screwed by gifts they can't use when playing the game) want to draw names. I have compromised by a way of doing both, and even that won't appease some people.

So next year - I'm just not going to do the grab bag at all. I thought it was a nice way of showing the family that you do still have some regard for them, but since we can't come to an agreement, then only thing I'll regard is my wallet, and not their stupid faces (which should be full of bruises in the shape of my fists).

So, all of that was given to me because with work and school, everyone thought I didn't have enough going on. So at school, I missed a deadline for a paper last night. I had the paper done, but didn't bring it to class. I emailed it to him this morning, and it's only 2% per day deduction in grade, so it's not a big deal, but it's still not good.

I'm at my end with the crocheting and knitting... So much to do, so little time left to do it. But I will get it all done, mark my words, damnit!

I guess I'll leave you guys on that note. Just kinda wanted to bitch for a few minutes is all... Later, bitches!

sex-machine
From the dawn of time, the word of the "Chosen One" emerging from the pits of despair to save humanity have circulated and pulsated through our hot, sinful bodies. The means by which to achieve such sinfulness have never been fully articulated and could never be without his return. Ladies and Gentleman - I have the secret to such sinful hotness. I HAVE the power to achieve such great heights of naughty, guilty pleasure! I am...

The Sex Machine!

strain
I just got done listening to Hey Mercedes for a couple of hours. It amazes me that they weren't more popular. Out of all the bands I listen to, I feel like they had the most potential. They melded 2 guitars together perfectly, Damon was a phenomenal drummer... It makes you think of what would happen had they not broken up. Would they have gone the route that City on Film has gone (yes, I have pondered this before in my ramblings, and I'm doing it again - so shut the fuck up and deal with it!)... Would they have released a new album that rocked so hard you couldn't even think about another album that rocked so hard? Would one of the members have quit and been replaced by someone from another popular band? Who knows... It makes me think about the life span of a band. They lasted about 4-5 years, recorded 35 original songs (approx.) and toured all over the place. Still seems like they could have done more...

Anyway, enough of that junk... here's why I haven't been blogging as much lately:

Life sucks, and then you live it. I'm exhausted people. I had Thanksgiving weekend to deal with, and then this week turned out to be quite busy for me. Between the 2 essays I had to complete for class, the light that I had to get done for 3D design class and the varied Christmas crap I've been dealing with, I'm just so stretched to my limit, and I'm hoping that I can finally relax this weekend, if not just for a bit.

Here's a quick top 10 of my favorite drummers:

Mike Felumlee, Damon Atkinson, Dave Grohl, Jimmy Chamberlain, Abe Cunningham, Matt Cameron, Dave Kruson, Joe Daniels, Dale Crover and Ben Lythberg.

In terms of guitar players... I don't know - Slash is in there someplace, though - THAT I can guarantee you...

In terms of bass players... Nikki Sixx is in there someplace. As is Les Claypool (yea, that's right!)

In terms of singers... Chris Cornell and Kurt Cobain fit, of course. Darryl Taberski and Rob Fusco. Matthew Caws and Kevin Devine. Ben Gibbard and Matt Skiba (I know, even this one surprised me - but only from the early years... I don't know what kinda drugs he's taken to sound the way he does now... ugh).

Those are all I can think of for the moment - perhaps more later, we'll see. I'm amazed going through those singers that I like so many from such different musical backgrounds. Pop, hardcore, emo, pop-punk... craziness, but they all had a place on my CD rack at some point, and left some kind of impression on me, so it can't be all bad.

So yea. I'm burnt out. I don't even have anything to really talk about today. This is what happens when you focus your life on school and work. I do have to make a self portrait in my 3D class, so perhaps I'll do something where I'm so busy that I've isolated myself from my friends, and feel kind of boring and uninteresting in the process... I don't know. I have an idea of something like that with artist figures and string. I'm hoping the teacher thinks it will be a cool idea, cause my brain is just too fried to think of anything else.

Thanksgiving this year was interesting. As I get older and older, I can't help but feel that the family is growing further and further apart. It's like these holidays don't mean anything anymore. Everyone's fighting, or no one wants to deal with it. I remember back when all I wanted to do was open hundreds of dollars worth of gifts with my name on them, and in return, I'd give out maybe $100 worth of stuff... I made out like a bandit most Christmas's! But now I spend and spend and get spent on about the same amount. That's not fair! When did Christmas become about everyone, and not just ME!?!?! I'm staging a protest...

Could work blow my goddamn ass any more than it already does? I don't think it's possible...
