progress
Scientific Progress Goes Boink!

That's right, I read Calvin and Hobbes books when I grew up. This was WAY before Calvin was known for peeing on Ford and Chevy symbols. This was also before I had any friends, because... well - let's face it, I've never been the popular guy... well, pretty much anywhere.

Anyway - whenever I think of progress, I think of that title. Progress... I'm making some progress with music. I actually demo'ed this weekend some new songs I'm working on, and listened to some old ones (man, am I glad I never posted some of those, LOL).

Lyrics are still being worked on... I'm not a lyricist - I can hardly write poetry. It's all a big joke in my head - I'll be that guy that tries too hard to be all serious - and I'll end up sounding stupid. I guess I need to get over that, as that's the risk you take when you write music. Whatever...

I've been listening to an old standby lately - good old Hey Mercedes... And oddly enough, it's their last album, which I've always liked but never listened to much. I agree with the criticism of it - the all-too-smooth production that makes the songs blend together at the end of the album - the simplistic nature of the songs that veers away from the 2 guitar mastery of the previous endeavors... But then, why stick to that stuff? I guess that album was the beginning of the end for them, so maybe that's why I don't listen to it much. I don't know, I guess I just think of when I would see them live, and they used the 1:30 intro that finished with a computerized woman's voice saying "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome... Hey Mercedes" and then they'd command a performance of "Boy Destroyers" - it was like... the perfect setup for the show, and I always loved to see it. Those were better times. *sigh*

I mean, I guess I like the City on Film stuff - it just doesn't have the same edge, though. And maybe that's the point. Stuff doesn't always need an edge. It just makes it more interesting...

I'm listening to the latest outing of the Appleseed Cast at the moment. It's interesting. I think there's too MUCH edge in this album, but that's just my opinion - it sounds like they're trying too hard, but it's also working to their advantage...

I've been in the mood for rocking music lately - I even put some old Hardcore CD's on my ipod just to have them... Snapcase, One King Down, Brothers Keeper... When I'm stressed out, there's nothing like some dude screaming his guts out over pseudo-heavy metal music about not doing drugs or not drinking or not eating meat... I then go and drink after steak dinners - ironic, eh?

I have this idea for a video EP that I want to do SO badly - I could only imagine that it would cost THOUSANDS of dollars, and that I will never EVER be able to do it... but it's 4 songs, and each one would have a video - actually, it would be one long video with the 4 songs in it. I would talk about it here, but... why bother...

I just wrote a poem out about cities burning and people dying like animals on a farm - but I don't like it, so you don't get to see it.

I have work to do. You probably do, too...
